The Wilson County Fair is just around the corner so we will need to be making plans for that event. The dates for the fair are August 17 - 26, 2023. The fair will be a major topic of discussion at the June meeting so we will need as many members at that meeting as we can. We will finalize our plans at the July meeting. We typically don't have a meeting in August because none of the meeting venues are available for us to meet due to preparations for the fair, hence, the importance of the June and July meetings. So far, Patricia, Butch, Phil, Jon, Dale, Sonny, Gene, Clark, Rich, Willie and Joe have indicated that they will represent the club during the fair. If any other members would like to participate, please let Rich know as soon as possible but no later than May 29th -- the official list goes to the fair office on the 30th.

Neddy Jacobs Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 22nd this year. We will discuss this event in more detail at the June and July meetings.

The club treasurer, Patricia, indicated that the club had $2083.55 in the treasury.

Show & Tell

Two members had carvings to show at the meeting. First, Gene had two Nochals that he carved that were inspired by Miroslaw Czeladka from Poland. The Nochals were carved out of basswood and painted with watercolors. They will be finished with Deft. Note: Miroslaw calls his art pieces Nochals, and they are whimsical wooden sculptures of dwarf like creatures with tall, oddly shaped hats and large noses. The name “Nochal” came from the unique way he carves i.e. their big noses.

Jon carved a "love" spoon out of walnut and used Minwax as a finish.
